What IPAF Training Course Do I Need?

Training is crucial for keeping workers safe when operating powered access platforms and working at height. The world of MEWP training can be confusing, with plenty of different types of courses available.

In this blog, we look at the different types of IPAF training, to help you choose the right one for yourself and your team.

Why is training important before operating a powered access platform?

One of the easiest ways to reduce risks when working at height is to use the correct equipment and be fully trained in how to use it safely. Accredited IPAF training will equip you or your team with all the knowledge you need, including all the relevant regulations.

While IPAF training itself isn’t legally required, employers are legally obligated to ensure their employees are adequately trained on how to safely operate MEWP equipment before use.

What are the different types of IPAF training?

There are a couple of different types of IPAF training to choose from, including:

  • IPAF 3a + 3b: Mobile Vertical and Mobile Boom Training

xThe IPAF 3a + 3b training course teaches operators how to safely and effectively use two different types of MEWPs; mobile vertical, such as scissor lifts, and mobile boom, such as cherry pickers.

  • Static Boom (1b, 1b+) Training Course

The IPAF static boom training course has been designed to teach operators how to safely operate self-propelled booms with outriggers as well as vehicle mounted platforms.

  • Push Around Vertical (PAV) Training Course

Push around vertical, otherwise known as PAV training course, is a half-day course that has been designed to teach operators how to safely operate and manoeuvre push around platforms.

  • MEWPs for Managers Training Course

Designed for managers, MEWPs for Managers is for those who supervise MEWP use to ensure a safe working environment.

  • IPAF Harness Training Course
