Providing a safe and convenient way to work at height, powered access hire is used by many industries. From construction and building maintenance to events, many sectors regularly depend on powered access platforms. Here at Star Platforms, we’re happy to provide advice and access platform hire for countless unique circumstances.

What is powered access equipment?

Powered access equipment is a mechanical platform that can easily be raised and manoeuvred using its own power source. They are vital pieces of equipment for working at height, allowing workers to reach and work in awkward positions for prolonged periods. They come in a range of types, with different levels of elevation and direction of movement to suit different jobs.

Why hire a powered access platform?

Different types of access equipment are suitable for certain jobs and it is incredibly important to use the right equipment for every job. This is the only way to keep your workers safe and enable them to carry out tasks quickly and effectively.

When you hire access platforms rather than buy them, you can choose the exact equipment you need every single time. From an extra-tall cherry picker to a stable low-level platform, our range lets you have the ideal access solution for every job without having to maintain an entire fleet yourself.

What are the different types of powered access platforms?

Our MEWP hire equipment falls into 3 main categories:

  • Cherry pickers/boom lifts
  • Scissor lifts
  • Low-level access platforms

Each type of mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) has its own benefits and is suited to a different kind of project.

Cherry pickers, also known as boom lifts, move both vertically and horizontally, offering access to hard-to-reach spots. Cherry pickers also tend to offer the greatest working heights – we can offer machines with working heights of up to 28 metres.

Scissor lifts are popular for a wide variety of indoor and outdoor tasks. They can offer large platform areas, allowing ample space for tools and equipment at height. Scissor lifts offer access to mid-level heights – our fleet ranges from 5.6-metre working heights to 22.5-metre working heights.

Low-level access platforms are generally for indoor use, providing a safer and more convenient alternative to a ladder or aluminium tower. As the name suggests, low-level platforms offer access to low to mid-level heights. Our work platforms range from working heights of 3.5 to 8 metres.

If you would like advice on which type of powered access equipment is suitable for your requirements, our team is happy to help – just get in touch at 01582 201625.
