Frequently Asked Questions About IPAF Training

If you’re considering IPAF training or need to ensure your team is fully certified to operate MEWPs safely, you’re likely to have a few questions.

This FAQ guide covers everything from course duration and certification to on-site training options and required PPE. Whether you’re new to powered access or looking to refresh your knowledge, you’ll find clear answers to help you get started with confidence.

Allow 4 – 6 weeks for your card to arrive.

You will receive a log book on the day of training if you pass, which acts as your temporary licence until your licence arrives.

If you have already passed your 3a (Mobile Vertical) or 1a (Static Vertical), then a further course is not required to operate PAVs, only familiarisation on the machine you are working with.

You will need safety boots, hi-vis vest, hard hat and for IPAF 3b (Mobile Boom) courses, must have a full body harness with adjustable lanyard (IPAF approved harness kits are available for purchase with 25% discount with all bookings).  Please also ensure you arrive with suitable clothing for the outdoor practical element.

The course is delivered in English, therefore a good understand of the English language is required.  We can however, provide the theory test papers in several languages.

The course starts at 8am and finishes at 4:30pm.

The IPAF PAL card is valid for 5 years.
