Meet the Team – Tania Simmons, Regional Business Development Manager

What are your main responsibilities:
As a Regional Business Development Manager, my role is all about driving growth and building strong relationships across the region. I focus on generating new business opportunities, nurturing existing customer relationships, and ensuring our clients receive the best possible service. This includes conducting site visits to understand project requirements firsthand, liaising closely with the hire desk to coordinate equipment availability, and making sure everything runs smoothly. While it’s a Business Development Manager role, the regional scope means I’m actively involved in a wide range of projects and customer needs across multiple locations.
How many years of experience in the powered access industry:
I have over 30 years of experience in the powered access industry. I began my career on the hire desk and then transitioned into field sales. Over the years, I have worked in various field sales roles for different companies, including national key account manager, managing key portfolios, and implant desks.
When did you join Star Platforms?
I joined Star Platforms in September 2015 as a Business Development Manager. Due to high demand, I was requested to run the sales/hire desk as the Sales Office Manager before taking on my current role as the customer experience and telesales manager.
What are your main challenges?
One of the biggest challenges is ensuring we have the right access equipment available exactly when our customers need it. Demand can be unpredictable, and availability isn’t always guaranteed – but it’s a challenge I rise to every time. I work closely with our internal teams to find solutions quickly and keep projects moving. It’s all about being proactive, responsive, and committed to delivering for our customers.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I genuinely love working with our customers. Helping them find the right solutions for their jobs and making sure they have what they need to succeed is incredibly rewarding. I take pride in going above and beyond to exceed expectations – whether that’s through quick turnarounds, tailored support, or just being available when they need me. It’s that personal connection and the satisfaction of making a real difference that makes this role so enjoyable.
Hobbies:
In my free time, I enjoy going away in my campervan for weekends to explore the UK with my two beautiful dogs. I also enjoy a nice glass of wine, going for walks in the countryside, listening to the birds, and disconnecting to be in tune with nature and myself.
