Star Platforms provides powered access for PAINT (RED) SAVE LIVES art campaign

UK powered access rental company, Star Platforms, provided a Skyjack 9250 Rough Terrain (RT) scissor lift to assist in creating the mural to help raise awareness for the (RED) cause.

Created by Shepard Fairey (otherwise known as Obey Giant), the “We Shape the Future Rose Shackle” is a stunning piece of art created to help highlight the (RED) cause to raise money and awareness to end HIV/AIDS. (RED) was started in 2006 by Bobby Shriver and U2 frontman Bono.

The PAINT (RED) SAVE LIVES campaign was the first global street art campaign of its kind and was brought together by thousands of different people to help bring urgent action in the fight to end AIDS. Wood Street Walls worked on the London arm of the campaign, and together with Shepard Fairey helped create the beautiful and eye-catching mural that now sits on Mare Street in Hackney, London.

“We were delighted to be involved in this project to support such a fantastic cause. Having worked on many art murals like this before we knew a scissor lift would be required and so contacted Star Platforms to hire the correct machine. We often work to tight deadlines and need reliable, quality equipment. Star Platforms always deliver.”

With a working height of 17.24m the artists were able to reach the top of the building to create the masterpiece.

A Skyjack 9250RT scissor lift was chosen due to the generous working height and deck size that is required on a job such as this. The hired platform has a working height of 17.24m enabling the artists to reach the top of the building and work comfortably. With the deck extension the 9250RT scissor lift offers a 7.21m working deck length, more than enough space for the artists, materials and tools. Large deck diesel scissors are a popular platform for external projects such as this due to the outriggers providing stability when working on rough terrain or uneven ground where artists need to paint with precision and accuracy.

“We have worked with Mark many times before and were only too happy to support this project. Wood Street Walls work on some amazing street art projects, often for a great cause, and this was no exception. The Skyjack 9250RT provided the stability the artists needed, whilst simultaneously allowing the them to access as much of the wall at one time as possible with its deck of over 7m in length.”
