IPAF eLearning Changes: What You Need to Know
IPAF has introduced an important change to its MEWP Operator Training Course for candidates choosing the eLearning route.
From 2 November 2026, candidates will continue to complete their IPAF theory training online before attending the Training Centre. However, the theory test completed at the end of the eLearning is now considered a practice test only.
What has changed?
Previously, the theory test formed part of the eLearning course. Under the new process:
- Candidates complete their eLearning theory training online as normal.
- The test at the end of the online eLearning is now a practice test.
- Candidates take the formal theory test in person when they arrive at the Training Centre.
- Candidates complete the test under classroom conditions.
- Candidates must pass the theory test before progressing to practical training.
- If a candidate fails the theory test, they must retake the entire theory training before attempting the test again.
- The facial recognition option for eLearning theory training is being withdrawn.
Why is IPAF making the change?
IPAF has introduced the new process as part of measures designed to address training fraud.
What does this mean for delegates?
The main thing to remember is that IPAF eLearning still allows you to complete your theory training online, but your formal theory test will now take place when you arrive at the Training Centre.
Delegates should therefore make sure they have completed their eLearning and are comfortable with the theory before attending, as they will need to successfully pass the in-person test before moving on to the practical element of their course.
If you’re booking IPAF training with Star Platforms, our team can help you understand the new process and what you need to complete before your training date.
