Star Platforms help Curious Brewery reach new heights in Ashford, Kent

UK powered access platform rental company, Star Platforms, provided articulated boom lifts and scissor lifts to the site which is set to open next month.

Established in 2011, the Curious Brewery is part of one of the UK’s most exciting drinks companies and leading winemaker, Chapel Down. The project started in August 2018, and TLC Roofing and Cladding who won the contract chose to partner with Star Platforms to provide powered access equipment to complete the roofing and cladding work.

Set to open in March, the 1.6 acre site in Ashford, Kent will be home to a state-of-the-art brewery, luxury dining restaurant and shop selling local produce. As with every modern build, safety is key and so the company chose to use powered access platforms to complete the work.

“When we found out we’d won the project for the build, we got in touch with Star Platforms to discuss what powered access equipment would be most suitable. The hire team were knowledgeable and able to recommend the best powered access platforms with confidence. We hired a 21m 4×4 articulated boom lift (Niftylift Height Rider HR21) and a 12m rough terrain scissor lift (Skyjack scissor lift SJ6832RT) that were perfect for use on site. Star Platforms are always reliable and deliver machines on time, every time.”

Jamie Cook, Managing Director, TLC Roofing and Cladding

The Niftylift HR21 4×4 articulated boom lift enabled the contractors to get up and under the roofing with ease to fit cabling and cladding, whilst ensuring their own safety and the safety of those around them. With a working height of 20.8m, a maximum outreach of 13m and 4×4 capability the Niftylift HR21 is a popular hired boom lift for carrying out work at height on projects such as this. The HR21 also comes with a Niftylift ToughCage, a tough, impact resistant cage offering extra strength and safety to operators in the machine.

All Niftylift boom lifts come with SiOPS® protection as standard, Niftylift’s exclusive safety feature that eliminates sustained involuntary operation for the operator by interrupting all machine movement if the operator is pushed against the cage controls. This makes the HR21 suitable for use on the most safety conscious of construction sites.

Using the Niftylift HR21 articulated boom lift, workers were able to reach up and under the roof to complete essential work with ease.

The Skyjack SJ6832RT scissor lift enabled the customer to carry out cabling work with ease due to its 11.58m working height and overall deck size of 3.94m x 1.42m. With four-wheel drive and outriggers fitted as standard, the SJ6832RT scissor lift provides stability to carry out complex tasks where both the worker, their tools and materials need to be at height. It comes with a 454kg safe working load, hinged railing system, lanyard attachment points and a tilt alarm system ensuring all workers are completely safe when working at height on the platform.

Both machines provided essential safety support and the ability to be used on rough terrain, the Niftylift HR21 articulated boom lift and Skyjack SJ6832RT scissor lift are idea for use on construction sites.

“When our customer called us about the project, we were delighted to help support them. The new brewery is fantastic for the area and will generate new jobs and bring in additional tourism. With a depot just outside Sevenoaks we were perfectly placed to deliver the powered access equipment to Ashford and the HR21 articulated boom lift and SJ6832RT scissor lift were delivered in fantastic condition ready for the task at hand. We are delighted to help support our customer on this project and look forward to working with them again in the future”.
