Ops Director Ian “Bakey” Mitchell Raises Over £5,500 for Oracle Cancer Trust

Last weekend, Star Platforms’ Operations Director, Ian Mitchell, took part in the 2017 London Marathon.

After months of training, Ian completed the 26.2 mile course in a very respectable 5 hours 7 minutes. By race day he had smashed his original fundraising target of £2,500 by raising over £5,500 for The Oracle Cancer Trust. Following the race, Ian said: “I would like to thank everyone who has supported me both with their extremely generous donations and their greatly appreciated messages of support. They have meant so much to me and have been great motivation for me both during my training and the race itself.”

Running in memory of his stepfather, Neil Jones; this was Ian’s first ever marathon. Before the race, Ian said: “Neil lost his long, and at times, very difficult battle with throat cancer on 19th September 2014. Throughout this very difficult time, Neil was an inspiration to me; always dignified and, despite his suffering, he never complained once. Running the 2017 London Marathon gives me the opportunity to give something back to help others who are suffering as Neil did.”

The Oracle Cancer Trust, is the UK’s leading head and neck research charity which funds early stage pioneering research.
