The IPAF harness training course teaches operators how to use a full-body harness on a MEWP. It is a half-day course that provides practical training that allows operators to perform tasks safely and reduces on-site injuries.
The IPAF Harness category is an IPAF operator course available at certain training centre locations alongside general operator training.
You will not need to bring your own harness for this course. You will be allocated a safety harness and adjustable lanyard for your use.
This course will guide you through everything you need to know including health and safety law, working at height regulations, different harness types and how to wear them, different types of lanyards, and safety equipment. and much more.
You’ll complete a written assessment and upon successful completion of the course, you’ll receive an IPAF certificate and a harness.
Harness use and inspection are essential skills for MEWP operators to understand. They are part of a series of fall protection measures that are taught in the training department. Appropriate harness use can be the difference between serious injury, and returning to your job the next day.
There’s no question why using a harness is a fantastic way to reduce injury for everybody on a job site. Though using safety harnesses isn’t always completely straightforward. The IPAF harness use training course covers maintenance hazards that could pose a threat to operators, as well as fall protection measures and everything you need to know about harness use.
Operators will receive training and be given practical exercises that will give them the skills required to understand the correct usage of a body harness, and how to use them on mobile elevated work platforms.

The IPAF Harness Training typically lasts around half a day, depending on group size and delivery format.
The course focuses on fall arrest and restraint harnesses used in MEWPs, including correct fitting, inspection, and usage techniques.
While not always mandatory, harness training is strongly recommended to meet health and safety obligations under UK Work at Height Regulations and to comply with site-specific requirements.
